The Devil Wears Sunglasses

Just not Sonia Rykiel...

Whether she likes it or not, the walking enigma that is Anna Wintour has been scrutinised relentlessly since the release of the apparently loosely-biographical film The Devil Wears Prada. I often wondered whether the ex-staffer author actually meant to add to the mysterious aura of the Wintour through her book. Regardless, since then her every move has been tracked - from what she wears to gala events, to her unflinching reaction to PETA activists and their nasty buckets of red paint.

A few nights ago in the USA, the most famous editor in the world appeared on a 92 Y Format chat with hotel CEO Jonathon Tisch. For once, her sunglasses were off and she even appeared to manage an open-mouthed, teeth-baring smile. PETA was of course there, screaming about fur and shame in the same sentence, and Anna simply eyeballed them and remarked "as you see, fashion means different things to different people." The crowd went wild, the PETA activists were thrown out, and the Wintour enigma lives on.

Next up for Wintour enthusiasts is her much anticipated interview on USA's 60 Minutes on Sunday evening. Keen to keep the interest alive, the station has released excerpts of the interview with this little gem from Anna (explaining why she wears sunglasses inside): "I can sit in a show and if I am bored out of my mind, nobody will notice." Classic.
