Expanding One's Vocabulary

Word of the day: Flop sweat.

n, nervous perspiration caused by a fear of failure before an audience. e.g. Scarlett Johansson is prone to flop sweat.

This little gem came to my attention via Ellen de Generes' chat show, when ScarJo admitted she flop sweats on the red carpet and during live singing performances.

Meryl Streep is also a self-admitted flop sweater: in the kitchen. She advises that too much time in the kitchen makes her "sweaty and snappy".

She said: "I can cook, but I fear that, as with video gaming or hardcore rap, I have no natural affinity. ... I am usually in a flop sweat, snapping at anyone in my line of sight."

Who would have thought?
