Viva Brisvegas: Design Spot #2

Jaime Beattie has a very familiar story - she started out as a property lawyer in Brisbane, totally ignoring the raging torrent of creativity that was running through her veins. In her spare time, she obsessed over buttons and vintage clothes, fabrics and furniture, until eventually she set about satisfying her creative impulses. Jaime Beattie was born, and since then her quirky range of accessories have been picked up at select boutiques across Australia and overseas.

Jaime's collection, Summers at the Sunset Hotel, won Best Accessory Collection - Debut in Sydney in 2008, and later that year, Jaime was selected to take part in the Springboard program ('a mentoring program for Australia's most promising furniture, accessories and homewares designers to develop their careers in local and international markets').

So there you have it - a talented, ex-lawyer pursuing her dream and, naturally, winning awards while she does it. Check out the press & praise segment of her website - she gets quite a bit of publicity in a broad spectrum of publications.

My favourite items are her recessionista shopping totes, which are a play on the British WWII propaganda posters (please, for heaven's sake don't admit you've never seen those posters).
