Despite his evil attire, “stormtrooper” Jacob French — shown meeting a young kindred spirit on a Perth, Australia, bridge on July 15 — aims to be a force for good in the universe.
To raise money for the Starlight Foundation, which seeks to brighten the lives of sick children, French is walking 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) from Perth to Sydney in full Star Wars armor (weighing about 10kg). He'll be walking 35-40 km per day, 5 days a week until he completes his trek.
On his website, French notes that: I am a member of the worldwide "501st Legion", a volunteer organisation that wears quality star wars outfits for Star Wars related events and as a means to contribute to their local communities through charity work. My involvement with the 501st Legion has been a fantastic experience and I have had plenty of opportunities to put on my suit of armour and entertain the public.
Quirky. Idealistic. Cute. I love it!
So far French has raised about $15,500 - his goal is $50,000. You can donate here.
Funny... I saw a storm trooper at Splendour!
