Auction House

From June 23-25, the Queensland Ballet Company will be selling off a range of costumes to raise funds for new costumes for the company.

QBC has reinvented itself since appointing Francois Klaus as Artistic Director and Chief Choreographer. While I find ballet utterly enchanting, I also lose interest within about half an hour, much preferring contemporary ballet over the more traditional Nutcrackers and Swan Lakes of this world. That said, I have never been more blown away by a dance performance than Graeme Murphy's Swan Lake, reformulated for modern times with stunning choreography, theme and costuming. The pas de deux during Odette's descent into madness between Odette and the Prince actually almost moved me to tears, and in fact most of the audience was dabbing at their eyes following their pas de deux.

Tangent central. If you need a tutu, head to QBC dance studios at Montague/Drake Streets in West End to pick up a bargain. Priced from $5-$80.
